Compliance reference

Compliance is where you record your state breeder ID, see its validation badge, and work each litter's checklist. You hold one ID per state. For the rules themselves, see the Rules pages — these are guidance, not legal advice.

State breeder ID

Your licence or registration number with your state regulator. It's called a different thing in each state, and the renewal rules differ:

• NSW — BIN (Breeder Identification Number). From the NSW Pet Registry. Permanent, free and one-off — no renewal. Mandatory for all dog breeders (including accidental litters); not required for cat breeders.
• VIC — source number. From the Pet Exchange Register. Renews annually; a fee applies and it can lapse.
• QLD — supply number. From the QLD Dog Breeders Register. Annual, with notice about 21 days before expiry. Dogs only — there is no QLD cat scheme.
• SA — DACO breeder number. From the Dog & Cat Management Board. Annual, expiring 30 June; renew by 31 August.

ID number

The number itself, as issued by the registry. Required to add an ID. When you enter or change it, the badge resets to Check pending until it's validated.

Expiry or renewal date

For states with an annual ID (VIC, QLD, SA), the date it expires or renews. Used to track your next re-check. Not shown for NSW, where the BIN is permanent.

Club member

VIC only. Tick if you're a member of an applicable organisation. Optional. It affects whether parts of the Victorian code bind you, which changes the guidance Whelpkeep shows.

Validation badge

Each ID carries a status badge:

• Check pending — captured, not yet validated. New or changed numbers start here.
• Valid — confirmed against the register.
• Invalid — couldn't be confirmed; worth checking the number.

Whelpkeep re-checks on a sensible cadence per state (NSW once, since it's permanent; VIC and QLD at your expiry; SA at the 30 June common date).

Care and premises

A per-state confirmation that your care and premises meet the code (the "care & premises" world of the rules). This is something you confirm — Whelpkeep records that you've attested to it; it isn't a document it verifies. See How compliance works.

The checklist

Each litter gets a checklist of what its state requires. The records-and-paperwork items tick themselves as your records and key dates land; the care-and-premises item is your confirmation above. Whelpkeep warns about what's missing or overdue but never blocks you.
